  TACK COAT IS ONE OF THE MANY USES OF MATREX SS-1 EMULSIONS, IT IS A COLD SPRAYED EMULSION WHICH PROVIDES A THIN LAYER OF ADHESIVE FILM BETWEEN AN OLD PAVEMENT LAYER AND A NEW OVERLAID SURFACE LAYER. IT REDUCES THE RISK OF SLIPPAGE & DELAMINATION BETWEEN THE TWO LAYERS. IT ALSO FACILITATES THE INFORM DISTRIBUTION OF THE STRESSES ACROSS THE PAVEMENT, BY MAXIMIZING THE CONTACTS BETWEEN LAYERS. TACK COATS ARE ALSO USED IN PATCHING AND IN ANY APPLICATIONS WHERE PRIMING AND WATERPROOFING MIGHT BE REQUIRED.

APPLICATION:


MATREX SS-1 TACK COATS IS APPLIED USING CONVENTIONAL SPRAYERS (HAND OR DISTRIBUTORS) AND IS APPLIED EVENLY AS POSSIBLE TO ACHIEVE COMPLETE COVERAGE OF THE EXISTING SURFACE. THE RATE OF SPREAD IS DEPENDENT ON THE POROUSITY ANF OTHER SURFACE FACTORS OF TREATED PAVEMENT. TACK COATS SHOULD ALWAYS BE USED WHEN OVERLAYING ALL PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE AND ASPHALT CEMEMT SURFACES.

  SPRAY PATCH IS ONE OF THE MANY USES OF MATREX RS-1 EMULSION, IT IS A COLD SPRAYED EMULSION, APPLIED UNIFORMLY TO FACILITATE BONDING BETWEEN AN OLD PAVEMENT AND THE VIRGIN AGGREGATE BEING APPLIED. IT IS AN ECONOMICAL MEANS OF IMPROVING RIDE QUALITY ON ROADS WITH MINOR DEFICIENCIES. IT ALSO INCREASES THE SERVICE LIFE OF OLDER PAVEMENTS, WITH LITTLE OR NO DAMAGE TO THE SUB-BASE. THE RS-1 EMULSION RATE MUST BE ENOUGH TO FACILITATE BOTH TACK COATING OF THE EXISTING AND ENOUGH EMULSION ADHERE TO THE VIRGIN AGGREGATE TO THE SURFACE.

MATREX RS-1 IS APPLIED USING CONVENTIONAL SPRAYERS (HAND OR DISTRIBUTORS) AND IS APPLIED EVENLY AS POSSIBLE TO ACHIEVE COMPLETE COVERAGE OF THE EXISTING SURFACE. THE RATE OF SPREAD IS DEPENDENT ON THE POROUSITY ANF OTHER SURFACE FACTORS OF TREATED PAVEMENT.

  MATREX PRIME COATS IS USED TO PROVIDE A MOISTURE RESISTANT MEMBRANE OF BITUMEN TO SEAL ROAD BASES, SUB-BASES AND SUB-GRADES. MATREX PRIME COATS ALSO ENCAPSULATE THE TO PREVENT MOISTURE DAMAGE DUE TO INCREASED MOISTURE CONTENT BY MOISTURE PENETRATION INTO THE SUB-LAYERS OR LOSS OF MOISTURE BY SURFACE EVAPORATION.

THE MOISTURE EQUILIBRIUM IS MAINTAINED AND THEREFORE THE STRENGTH OF THE CONSTRUCTION COURSE AND REDUCES THE LOSS OF FINES FROM THE SURFACE BY DURING HIGH RAINFALL PERIODS.
IT ALLOWS BOUNDED MATERIALS TO CURE TO OPTIMAL STRENGTH WHILE REDUCING SURFACE CRAZING. THE INTEGRITY OF THE MIX DESIGN IS MAINTAINED BECAUSE WE ARE ABLE TO PREVENT LOSS OF STONE FROM THE SURFACE OF BITUMINOUS ROAD MATERIALS DURING THE APPLICATION PROCESS AND ALSO PREVENT MOISTURE DEGRADATION IN-BETWEEN THE UNBOUND LAYERS OF ROAD CONSTRUCTION.

PRIME COATS ALSO BEHAVES LIKE A TACK, AN ESSENTIAL COMPONENT IN ENSURING GOOD BONDING OF A BITUMINOUS OVERLAY.

APPLICATION:


MATREX PRIME COATS IS APPLIED USING CONVENTIONAL SPRAYERS (HAND OR DISTRIBUTORS) AND IS APPLIED EVENLY AS POSSIBLE TO ACHIEVE COMPLETE COVERAGE OF THE EXISTING SURFACE. THE RATE OF SPREAD IS DEPENDENT ON THE POROUSITY ANF OTHER SURFACE FACTORS OF TREATED PAVEMENT.
TO ENSURE PENETRATION IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO APPLY THE EMULSION BEFORE THE FINAL COMPACTION OF THE BASE COURSE OR TO BREAK UP THE SURFACE OF THE BASE BEFORE APPLICATION AND THEN RE-COMPACTING.

 

  MATREX ASPHALT SEALERS ARE A STABLE DISPERSION OF A FINE GRAINED AGGREGATE OR SAND, CLAYS, INTO ASPHALT LATEX (OPTIONAL) AND WATER. ALL ASPHALT EMUSION SEALERS CAN BE APPLIED BY HAND OR BY MACHINE IN THIN LAYERS (1-3MM) TO PARKING LOTS, DRIVEWAYS, AIRPORT TAXIWAYS, FOOTPATHS AND OCCASIONALLY MINOR ROADS IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS.

ASPHALT SEALERS WILL ADDRESS MINOR SURFACE DEFICENCIES SUCH AS SMALL CRACKS AND MINOR RAVELLING, AND WILL TO A LARGE EXTENT PROTECT THE SURFACE FROM THE EFFECTS OF SUN AND OXIDATION, PREVENT MOISTURE DEGRADATION. FINISHED SARFACE ARE GENERALLY SMOOTH WITH GOOD SKID RESISTANCE THAT WILL FACILITATE MARKING PAINTS. FORTIFIED WITH ACRYLIC ENHANCERS ASPHALT BASED PRODUCTS SHOW RESISTANCE TO FUEL AND OIL SPILLS.

TWO-STAGED PROCESS:


ANIONIC OR (LESS OFTEN) CATIONIC SLOWSETTING ASPHALT EMULSIONS CAN BE MIXED WITH CLAY SLURRY. WHEN CATIONIC SLOWSET EMULSIONS ARE USED, THE CLAY MINERALS NEED TO BE PRE-TREATED WITH A DOPE, SUCH AS IS USED IN SLURRY SURFACING, TO PREVENT PREMATURE BREAKING DURING THE MIXING PROCESS.

A TREATED SLURRY IS MIXED WITH ASPHALT EMULSIONS IN A MIXER TO PROVIDE BOTH A GOOD QUALITY EMULSION AND WATER RESISTANCE IN THE CURED SEALER.
THE CLAYS AND OTHER FILLERS OR THICKENERS ARE DISPERSED IN AMBIENT TREATED WATER IN A BATCH TANK FITTED WITH A HIGH SPEED MIXER. ASPHALT EMULSION IS INTRODUCE AND DISPERSED. FURTHER WATER AND LATEX MAY THEN BE ADDED.

SEALERS SLURRIES DIFFER FROM SLURRY SURFACINGS IN THAT THEY ARE MADE PREMIXED MATERIALS DESIGNED AND PACKAGED FOR LONGER STORAGE LIFE AND ARE OFTEN SOLD TO THE RETAIL MARKET.

 

  MATREX CHIP SEAL, IS A QUICK, ECONOMICAL AND CONVENIENT MEANS OF REJUVENATING AND MAINTAINING A WORN OUT ROAD SURFACE. HOT EMULSIONS IS SPRAYED ONTO THE ROAD SURFACE, FOLLOWED BY AN APPLICATION OF AGGREGATE (CHIPS) ARE SPREAD ON TOP AND NORMALLY ROLLED TO ENSURE PROPER EMBEDMENT AND ALIGNMENT.

THIS PROVIDES A RELIABLE AND AN ECONOMICAL, WATER PROOOF WEARING COURSE, NOT TO MENTION A MUCH-IMPROVED SURFACE TEXTURE. HOWEVER, LITTLE OR NO SURFACE REGULATION IS ACHIEVED WITH SURFACE DRESSINGS.

APPLICATION:


MATREX CHIP SEAL APPLICATIONS ARE MADE USING SPRAYED LIQUID BINDER AND VIRGIN AGGREGATE (CHIP) APPLIED THROGH A SPREADERS. GENERALLY THEY ARE USED TO TREAT BOTH LIGHTLY AND HEAVILY TRAFFICKED ROADS. THE CORRECT RATE OF APPLICATION OF THESE MATERIAL IS ESSENTIAL TO ENSURE A GOOD PERFORMANING STRUCTURE.

MULTI LAYERS APPLICATIONS CAN BE MADE WITH VARING RATES OF BINDER AND AGGREGATE (CHIPS) AND ALSO IN COMBINATION WITH OTHER SURFACE SEALING TECHNIQUES SUCH AS SLURRY SEAL (PROCESS KNOWN AS CAPE SEAL) TO ACHIEVE THE DESIRED RESULT. AGGREGATES RESISTANT TO POLISHING (HIGH PSV) AND POLYMER MODIFIED BITUMENS ARE PREFERRED ON HIGH SPEED ROADS OR ON STRESSED AREAS TO PROVIDE SKID RESISTANCE AND CHIPPING RETENTION RESPECTIVELY.
